How your support helps
Megan’s Story: It was back in the autumn of 2008 when Megan first came into contact with the hospice. Her beloved grandad, Ted had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and he’d become seriously ill very quickly. Ted’s wife Dot, Megan’s nan, and the whole family were struggling to come to terms with the impact of this life-changing event – but the hospice team was on hand at this incredibly challenging time for them all to lean on.
“When Grandad was diagnosed with cancer it was quite sudden and unexpected. I remember at the end that he didn’t look like my grandad anymore. I still find it very hard to talk about.”
The hospice’s community nursing team at first helped to care for Ted at home, supporting Dot and her daughter Ruth. But in his last weeks, this became more difficult and in January 2009 Ted went into the inpatient unit. He very sadly died just three days later.”
It’s been 15 years since they lost Ted, but Megan says she and her loved ones will never forget the incredible support they received from the hospice.
“It’s so reassuring to know the hospice is always there if you need their help, but they can only continue to care for people if they receive the funding they need.”
